Additional Information: | 2025; This Astylistic Utilitarian-styled Argyle Electric Plant was constructed in 1906 and remained in use by the Village until its retirement in 2021. The property is built on a sloped grade at water’s edge, adjunct to the Pecatonica Bridge and Milwaukee Street. The two-story building rests on a cut stone foundation with a foundational arch to allow for the passage of water to generate power to the historic water wheels. The rectilinear footprint is clad in red brick with a hipped metal paneled roof. The zippered brickwork at the south indicates a rear addition. A shed roofed addition with vertical wood paneling is at the east. Windows are primarily single and paired double-hung replacement sashes with some infill. There is decorative brick belt coursing between the floors and decorative brickwork at the lintels. |
