Additional Information: | A 'site file' (Kaukauna Historic Properties) exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation-Public History. The two and a half story frame house (1916) measuring 32' x 28' faces Park School to the north and is currently divided into two apartments. Its most outstanding feature is a square tower with decorative shingles, small rectangular windows, and a double pyramidal roof. Although the porch is a newer addition, the house retains many of its original features including all of its double hung windows and doors and the exterior siding. The irregular roofline of the house includes a gable facing the street (which also displays decorative shingles) and a hip roof to the east of the building. The interior displays oak trim, floors, and stairway as well as beveled and leaded glass. The house at 105 Taylor Street is among the finest contributions to Kaukauna's catalog of fine Queen Anne residences. The unsual tower with pyrmidal roof and its nearly complete integrity make this house stand out among similar residences. This property was owned by Anton Mankowsky, listed as a millwright in the 1919 city directory but later active in the fuel trucking and road contracting business. After 1921 it was also the home of Martin J. Heindl, janitor at the Kaukauna High School. |
