Additional Information: | This well-designed, prominantly located commercial block retains some architectural interest despite unsympathetic storefront modifications. 2013: The Adams & Taylor Building, constructed in 1897, is located at the northeast corner of Main and Scranton Streets in downtown Whitehall. The commercial block is four bays wide and features a decorative parapet with pediments, dentils, and a seashell and floral motif. The three northern-most bays are faced with brick and retain the original storefront configurations composed of bulkheads, display windows, transoms, and recessed entries. The second story consists of regularly spaced, one-over-one, wood windows with simple stone sills and lintels. The southernmost bay has been extensively altered. Brick veneer, wood siding, and a wood-shingled pent roof have been added, and the second story windows have been greatly downsized. |
