NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this park. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation-Public History. 1988 info: Lakeside Park is a large park in the northern part of the city of Fond du Lac. It includes several structures, park facilities, and a marina. In 1895, the city of Fond du Lac purchased about 140 acres of land to make Lakeside Park. Park plans specified that all walks in the park should lead to an ornate artesian fountain. In 1898, local businessman John Boyle, donated a pavilion nad bridge to the park. In 1899, the river channel was dredged, making it deep enough for the docking of large boats. The dirt from the dredging was used as fill in other areas of the park. In 1900 a bandstand was constructed. Bathing facilities were built in 1906, and a bridge erected in 1926. A lighthouse was built in 1933, and an old street car waiting station was added to the park recently. Lakeside is the biggest and most significant public park in Fond du Lac. It has been the center of city recreation for almost 100 years. Because of its long association with the history of parks and planning in Fond du Lac, it is historically significant. Other records associated with this building include: Lakeside Park (AHI #54147), Lakeside Park Bridge #2 (AHI # 209141), Lakeside Park Bridge #3 (AHI #209142), Lakeside Park Bridge #4 (AHI #209143), Lakeside Park Bridge #5 (AHI #209144), Lakeside Park Bridge #6 (AHI #209145), Lakeside Park Pavilion (AHI #209146), Lakeside Park Shelter (AHI #209147), and Lakeside Park Building (AHI #210401)
