Additional Information: | January 2002-St. Florian's Catholic Church is an imposing, Neo-Gothic Revival building finished with red brick, trimmed with stone and rests on an ashlar foundation. A tall, square bell tower with a narrow steeple dominates the south-facing (front) facade. The tower displays gothic-arched openings, a leaded-glass rose window, attenuated buttresses, and decorative brick work. The main entrance appears at the base of the bell tower, recessed within the gothic-arched portal of a gabled entrance porch. Smaller, matching entrance porches flank this one. Each exhibits a shouldered parapet with a stone coping and cross, and decorative brickwork. A flight of concrete steps rises to each entrance. The main block of the church is enriched with buttresses, gothic-arched windows of leaded glass, blind gothic-arched windows, and ornamental brickwork. St. Florian's Catholic Church may date from 1913. An elementary school dating from the 1980s and a c. 1970 rectory stand west of the church. A cemetery lies east of the church. |
