NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. This three story Twentieth Century Commercial style building has a brick facing and a parapet with stone trim. Windows of the upper floors are large single panes with transoms. A large metal sign spelling out "F.W. Woodworth Co." covers the area above the large modern show windows. This building is architecturally attached to its neighbor at 80-82 S. Main Street. This building has some architectural interest. This building was probably constructed for the store operated by J.C. Whittelsey and John Sharpe, who began their business in 1861. By 1880, Whittelsey began operating a dry goods business alone at this location. He operated here until 1907. The building was then combined with its neighbor to the south to make up the large Woolworth's Dime store. This building has some historical interest because of its relationship to a long-term dry goods business in Fond du Lac.
