Additional Information: | This three story commercial building is constructed of red brick that is faced on the front facade with terra cotta that is scored to resemble stone ashlar. The building has a terra cotta cornice decorated with a row of dentils. Under the cornice is a wide frieze with two projecting shields with the letter "Z." The words "Zimmerman Bros." are attached to the frieze. They are flanked by two decorative panels. Windows are modern single pane aluminum windows with awnings. The modern storefront has a facing of modern brick. Openings are modern single light units. This building has some architectural interest as an interesting example of the Classical Revival style. This building was constructed for the Treleven Company Department Store, who occupied it until 1926. In 1928 the Zimmerman Brothers occupied the store and stayed only until the early 1930s. From 1934 to the post World War II era, the building housed the Fond du Lac Dry Goods Company. In 1970, the store was known as the Fond du Lac Department Store. By 1980, the building was converted to a small office building. This building has some historical interest. |
