See the 2/1994 issue of the "Mazomanie Historical Society Newsletter" for recent photograph. The Mazomanie Railroad Depot, now the library, is one of Wisconsin's oldest remaining railroad depots. Built in 1857 after fire destroyed the original station, it is a two-story utilitarian building with clapboard walls and a front-gabled roof. The original freight room and the sheltered platforms, however, have been removed. "The Mazomanie Depot is the oldest frame depot in Wisconsin. It was built in 1857 by the Milwaukee and Mississippi Railroad Company to replace the original depot which had been destroyed by fire earlier in the same year. The building underwent major remodeling in 1880 when a surrounding platform was removed, the building lowered, and the passenger waiting rooms moved from the west to the east end. In 1945 another remodeling reduced the length to fifty feet and shortened the eaves by six feet to accommodate modern railroad cars. Used continuously by the Milwaukee Road until 1973, it was sold and used for storage, as an office and shop for a community service group, and for housing. In 1993 it was restored to its original size and outward appearance for use as the village library and historical research center."
