| Additional Information: | 1995- "Red brick, Four-square farmhouse, ca. 1915, with flat hipped roof and Craftsman style front porch and matching side porch. Rusticated concrete block foundations and piers on porches with tapered square posts and hipped roofs. Railings have been removed. Windows are one-over-one, and a large, gabled dormer projects from the center front roof. A gable roofed, frame shed near the road has an unusual quatrefoil oculus on the side facing the road. This farmhouse was built for the family of August Speth. By style, this house appears to date to ca. 1915, but the farmhouse for this property is shown on the north edge of the section on the 1928 plat map. The next available map dates to 1947 and shows a house in the current location. Given the style of the house, it is probable that the 1928 plat map is incorrect. This is another of the several Speth farmhouses in the neighborhood. No Four-Square houses were identified in the Town of Belmont in the 1977 windshield survey. Given the paucity of intact farmhouses in the Town, this house is a relatively intact and substantial masonry example, but it is of little architectural distinction. The survey uncovered no one of historic interest who lived here." -"USH 151, Dickeyville to Belmont", WisDOT# 1209-02-00, Prepared by Katherine Hundt Rankin (Preservation Consultant) for Rust Environment & Infrastructure Inc, 1995. |
