THIS TWO STORY COMMERCIAL VERNACULAR BUILDING FEATURES A RECTANGULAR SHAPED PLAN CONFIGURATION AND A FLAT ROOF. THE STRUCTURAL SYSTEM IS MASONRY, WITH THE FOUNDATION AND TRIM COMPOSED OF STONE AND THE EXTERIOR WALLS COMPOSED OF BRICK. LINTELS AND SILLS, BOTH MADE OF WHITE STONE, DECORATE THE LARGE SECOND STORY WINDOWS. STONE QUOINS EMBELLISH THE CORNERS OF THE BUILDING, WHILE A STONE STRING COURSE DISTINGUISHES THE CORNICE. THE STRUCTURE HAS BEEN REMODELED AT VARIOUS TIMES IN THE PAST, IN 1891, (SEE BIB. REF. B), AND FROM 1900 TO 1908, (SEE BIB. REF. C). SINCE 1984, AN ONGOING RESTORATION AND AN ADDITION OF A TWO STORY FRAME REAR STRUCTURE HAS TAKEN PLACE. (SEE BIB. REF. D). THIS BUILDING IS PRESENTLY IN GOOD CONDITION. THIS STRUCTURE WAS BUILT AS AN ADDITION TO THE GLOBE HOTEL IN 1876. (SEE BIB. REF. A). IT WAS USED AS AN HOTEL FROM 1876 UNTIL 1929. (SEE BIB. REF. A). THE REAR OF THE HOTEL ORIGINALLY HAD A DORMATORY FOR MINERS AND RAILROAD WORKERS. (SEE BIB. REF. D). THIS BUILDING IS RELATED TO THE GLOBE HOTEL BUILDING ON 227 COMMERCE STREET (IA 15/23 AND 55/9). 2012- "Built by Nicholas Schillen to enlarge the Globe Hotel. Schillen was born in Prussia and came to Mineral Point in 1857 at the age of 24. Schillen was a miner and a farmer before taking on the Globe Hotel in 1873. When the Stude's owned the hotel this was the lobby and card playing area.
