Additional Information: | Double store building; parapet with corbeling; round arch window lintels with keystones; string course with "dogtooth" type brick work between floors; first floor store frnot altered and one upper story window altered. Dave Eulberg recalled that the Pizza Villa was Myron's Beauty Shop in the 1950s and did not recall the function of the cafe. Sanborn-Perris Map Co. Cook by 1908 and remained in the building through 1930. In 1916, Otto Isberner purchased the building 111 W. Cook and opened the Fashion Store as the first speciality, ready-t-wear clothing store for ladies in Portage. Probably in 1920 when he purchased teh building at 126 W. Cook (57/16), Isberner moved his business there. He sold the store to G.A> Pearson, the current manager of Spurgeons, in 1950 (Register-Democrat 4/1/1948; 5/13/1950). Ray Welsh established a grocery at 111-115 W. Cook by 1929 (Smith-Baumann Directory Co. 1929). |
