NOTES
Additional Information:2017- "This Neoclassical Revival school was built in 1907. Designed by Manitowoc architect Christian H. Tegen, this two-story building features a high rock-faced block foundation, cream brick walls, and a flat-pantile hipped roof. The overhanging eaves of the roof contain shallow modillions. The school's main fac;:ade faces east. with two projecting wings north and south of a central recessed block. The central block contains three bays of three, single-paned windows, with the first floor windows sheltered by a striped awning. Entrances are located on both of the projecting wings, and feature a glazed and wood-paneled double-door entry with transom lights above. A round pediment and entablature supported by engaged columns surrounds each entrance, and the arch of the pediment contains an elaborately carved shield emblazoned with a large "C." Other than the entrances with single windows above, the east facades of the projecting wings are devoid of ornamentation. The southern projecting wing and central block is the oldest portion of the building, with additions in 1925 and 1960 including the northern projecting wing and the infill of the U-shaped courtyard on the western elevation. Since the time of the last survey in 1985, the original 9-over-9 double hung windows have all been replaced with the current single-paned aluminum. The building is currently occupied by Empire Beauty School."

The Cleveland School was the last school built by the public school system under is "ward school" system in which each aldermanic district had its own elementary school. The south section of the building (as shown in photo MN35-08) is the original portion built in 1907. The 1925 connecting wing and north block copied the original design. The building has two stories topped by a hip roof. The original double hung windows with 9/9 lights and concrete lintels have been replaced with single-paned aluminum windows.

The building is currently being used for commercial purposes.
