Additional Information: | The present Kurth Malting Company grain elevators have had a varied history. The original portion of the complex dates back to 1900 when William Rahr left the William Rahr Sons Company to start the Manitowoc Malting Company (later became Wisconsin Malting and, still later, Kurth Malting). The easternmost of the storage towers is made of wood clad with metal and is the original tower. The westernmost towers were built by Rahr in 1914 and 1928 and are of concrete. The plant was sold to Herbert Kurth aournd 1930 and operated as Wisconsin Malting company and, later, Jurth Malting. The most recent group of elevators closest to the river was built in 1943. Interivew with Al Klotzbuecher plant manager and review of plant files. |
