Additional Information: | Altered first story. This two story brick commercial structure has the false parapet of the boomtown style. The first floor store front has been significantly altered and false shutters have been attached to the second floor facade. This commercial building housed the offices of the Weekly Citizen and later, its sister newspaper, the Daily News. The WEekly Citizen was founded in 1897 when local investors purchased the old weekly Tribune. In 1900, the owners of the Citizen formed the Daily News to compete with the Manitowoc Herald, the city's first daily. In 1919, the Herald and the News merged forming the basis of the city's present daily, the News Herald Reporter. |
