Additional Information: | Addition in 1945. "This Italianate school house was constructed in 1909. Designed by local architect Christian H. Tegen, the main block of this square, two-story building has a stone foundation and brick walls. The pyramidal hipped roof contains a dormer on the southern side, and was originally capped with a square cupola. The cupola was removed at an unknown date. The entrance is located in a one-story projection at the southeast corner. Window arrangement throughout the building is symmetrical with the exception of the stairwell windows above the entrance, and all windows have been partially or completely filled in with wooden vertical siding. An addition to the east was constructed in 1944, containing a playroom and indoor lavatories. The addition is constructed on red face-brick with a flat roof and ornamentation limited to brick work on the southern elevation and at the cornice. Windows on the addition face east, and have also been partially or totally filled in. The building currently houses a Veterans’ Post." -"City of Manitowoc Boundaries", WisDOT#1500-37-00, 1500-47-00, 4560-12-00, Prepared by Kelly Noack, (2017). |
