Additional Information: | This property is part of a religious complex that contains St. Martin's Catholic Church [58153] and an associated school [58151], parish house [58154], and cemetery. With the exception of a sign adjacent to the road, the complex is set back from WIS 67 and the three buildings are grouped in a U-shape with the cemetery to the southeast. 2014- Appearance unchanged. 2012- The two-and-a-half-story, cross-plan vernacular school, built in 1900, rests on a fieldstone foundation and has walls clad in cream brick. The moderately-pitched gable roof is covered in asphalt shingles and has cornice returns. Wall planes are punctuated by multiple belt courses and a stone name/date plaque is centered on the main elevation. A large round window is located in the front (west) gable end. Fenestration is regular, and the segmental-arch window openings contain four-over-four double-hung wooden sash. Some have been infilled with brick and vinyl and downsized windows. Entrances are located on either side of the main elevation; both have been enclosed by small modern shed-roof vestibules clad in vinyl siding that partially obscure the original doorways. The south vestibule currently functions as an entrance. The hip-roof rear wing features a small gabled dormer on the east elevation and a secondary entrance. |
