NOTES
Additional Information:Percy Isham Hale was born in Alton, IL on 11/19/1864. He moved to Stoughton in 1867. On 6/25/1890, he married Harriet Grubb in Barry, IL. She died on 11/11/1940. They had three girls and one boy. Percy attended Lombard College in Galesburg, IL and was a member of the Gold Legion of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He later served as a trustee of the college. He also trained as a pianist at the Chicago Musical College. He had this house built in 1910 and died here in 1942. Earlier on the morning that he died, he had been helping Fred Luce who was having his own medical emergency that morning. Fred survived but Percy had a heart attack later that morning. During his lifetime, Percy was a leader in Stoughton schools, city baseball teams and ski clubs. He was an organizer of the Beaver Reserve Fund insurance. Helped found the Stoughton Country Club and planted many of the elm trees there. Was the head of the Stoughton Red Cross, treasurer of the Universalist church, board member of the public library, and founder of the Stoughton Boy Scouts. During WWI, he was active in Liberty Loan drives. His dry goods store, which he took over from his dad in 1913, was a victim of the Great Depression and closed.

Harriet was born on 1/31/1870 in Barry, IL. She also attended Lombard College and was a member of Pi Beta Phi. She also died in this house of a stroke after a three week illness.
