NOTES
Additional Information:THIS TWO-STORY COMMERCIAL VERNACULAR STYLED RETAIL BUILDING WAS CONSTRUCTED BETWEEN 1849 AND 1850. (SEE BIB. REF. A). IT FEATURES A RECTANGULAR SHAPED PLAN CONFIGURATION, A STONE FOUNDATION, A BRICK EXTERIOR, A WOOD AND STONE TRIM AND A GABLE ROOF. SECOND-STORY, SEGMENTAL ARCHED WINDOWS WITH ONE-OVER-ONE LIGHTS ARE ADORNED WITH BRICK LINTELS AND LIGHT-COLORED STONE SILLS. A LATE 19TH CENTURY PORCH, COMPLETE WITH ORNAMENTAL SPINDLE WORK AND BRACKETED SQUARE POSTS, PROJECTS FORWARD ON THE MAIN FACADE. THE ORIGINAL ROOF OF THIS BUILDING WAS REPLACED AND THE ENTIRE STRUCTURE WAS ENLARGED AFTER BEING DAMAGED IN AN 1897 FIRE. (SEE BIB. REF. D). THESE REPAIRS AND IMPROVEMENTS WERE MADE IN 1897. (SEE BIB. REF. D). THE BUILDING IS IN GOOD CONDITION.

RELATED TO THIS STRUCTRE ARE THE VIVIAN BUILDINGS (SEE MAP CODES 14/26 AND 55/3; PHOTO CODES IA 14/28, 2/19, 55/3).

THE HISTORICAL NAMES OF THIS STRUCTURE INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: THEODORE RODOLF BUILDING (SEE BIB. REF. A); DR. JOHN VIVIAN RESIDENCE (SEE BIB. REF. B); AND THE ELLINGEN BARBER SHOP (SEE BIB. REF. C). THIS BUILDING WAS USED AS A RESIDENCE FROM 1849 TO 1929. (SEE BIB. REF. A, D). ACCORDING TO THE INVENTORY CARD WHICH DESCRIBES THIS PARTICULAR PROPERTY, THE BUILDING IS CONSIDERED PART OF IVEY'S PHARMACY AT 128 HIGH STREET (SEE PHOTO CODES IA 14/28 AND 2/19).

THE BUILDING WAS DESIGNATED LOCALLY, BECOMING PART OF THE MINERAL POINT LANDMARK DISTRICT IN 1972.

2012- "Theodore Rodolf, from Switzerland, built this and the neighboring building to the west when he returned to the area from New Orleans. Severly damaged in the fire of 1897, it was repaired and enlarged by Dr. John Vivian. In 1914, the western portion of the building and one of the original windows were covered by a staircase added to the building next door.

In addition to being Rodolf's residence, it has been Dr. John Vivian's residence; Ellingen's Barber Shop; Helen Mussehls' beauty shop; Dr. Larsen, Dentist; Theodore Landon's Studio; and Time & Again Antiques."
