Additional Information:THIS TWO-STORY, COMMERCIAL VERNACULAR RETAIL BUILDING WAS CONSTRUCTED IN 1859. (SEE BIB. REF. A). IT FEATURES A RECTANGULAR SHAPED PLAN CONFIGURATION, A STONE FOUNDATION, A STONE EXTERIOR, A STONE TRIM AND A FLAT ROOF. THE SIX-OVER-SIX WINDOWS ON THE SECOND STORY ARE ADORNED BY STONE LINTELS AND AN IRON BALCONY. THE BUILDING WAS PROBABLY RECONSTRUCTED IN 1862 AFTER IT WAS DAMAGED BY A FIRE, WHICH OCCURRED IN THE SAME YEAR. (SEE BIB. REF. B). THE STRUCTURE IS IN GOOD CONDITION.

THE HISTORIC NAMES OF THIS BUILDING INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: P. LENAHAN AND BROTHER DRY GOODS AND HARDWARE STORE; AND THE LENAHAN BROTHERS BUILDING. (SEE BIB. REF. A). THE GENERAL STORE CONDUCTED BUSINESS AT THIS SITE FROM 1859 TO 1871. (SEE BIB. REF. A). OTHER VENTURES TO HAVE OCCUPIED THE STRUCTURE WERE A HARDWARE STORE IN 1884, A SALOON IN 1894, THE BEN JACKA MEATS STORE IN 1917, AND THE CLYDE BATCHELOR BUILDING IN 1924. THE SITE IS ASSOCATED WITH COMMERCE FROM 1859 TO 1929. (SEE BIB. REF. A). RELATED TO 134 HIGH STREET IS 138 HIGH STREET (MAP CODE 14/27A).

THE BUILDING WAS DESIGNATED LOCALLY, BECOMING PART OF THE MINERAL POINT LANDMARK DISTRICT.
