Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Transitional in design, this frame house retains vestiges of the Queen Anne style, in the asymmetry of the facade and the reduced corner tower; but the box-like volume and classically derived ornament indicates an awareness of the early Colonial Revival style. The front porch, with Ionic columns supporting the entablature, abutts the corner bay, which at the roof is treated as a tower. A pedimented dormer, set into the front slope of the main hip roof, provides light for the attic level. The main two stories of the house are covered with clapboards. A plain belt course and frieze provide horizontal accents. Brackets appear at the cornice line. John H. A. Lacher was the first director of the County Historical Museum and author of several early articles on the history of the community. |
