Additional Information: | A 'site file' (Saint Mary's Springs Academy Complex) exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation-Public History. The brick academy building has had some Adams Revival detailing. THIS EXCELLENT GEORGIAN REVIVAL STYLE BUILDING WAS BUILT IN 1929 TO A DESIGN BY THE CHICAGO ARCHITECTURAL FIRM OF SCHMIDT, GARDEN, & ERICKSON. IT WAS ORIGINALLY BUILT AS A ROMAN CATHOLIC GIRL'S SCHOOL KNOWN AS ST. MARY'S SPRINGS ACADEMY AND HOUSED BOTH BOARDING GIRLS AND TEACHING SISTERS OF THE ORDER OF ST. AGNES. THE BUILDING CONTINUED IN USE FOR MANY YEARS AND BOYS WERE ADMITTED IN 1940, BUT THE BUILDING WAS VACANT WHEN SURVEYED IN 2002 AND WAS STILL UNOCCUPIED 2006. THIS BUILDING HAS NOW BEEN GREATLY ALTERED AND NEW ADDITIONS HAVE BEEN ADDED TO IT. THE LAND THAT IS OCCUPIED BY THE ACADEMY HAS BEEN ANNEXED TO THE CITY OF FOND DU LAC SINCE IT WAS FIRST SURVEYED IN 1974. |
