NOTES
Additional Information:Molded window caps, Front porch.

John Reimer (1856-1885) was a merchant whose place of business was on lower Main Street. Active in the Concordia Society, Reimer built this Doty Island home about 1880. After his death at age 29, the house was rented to workers at the Gilbert Paper Mills.

The John Reimer house maintains a significant level of site and structure integrity, but is lacks historical association with important individuals and events. The house may be of local interest in that its location evokes th close relationship of industry to its employees.

The John Reimer house is adjacent to the Gilbert Paper Mills. The house is a gabled wll with a "T" plan, and the roof is multigabled with a shed porch roof. The roofing materials are asphalt, the walls cream brick with a stretcher bond, and the foundations random stone. Molded window caps highlight windows on the two story portion of the building.

The John Reimer house is a good example of the gabled ell vernacular form as constructed with brick. Fairly common in the city, this house is distinguished b the hooded window caps and its integrity of form. Other examples, however, offer stronger historical significance.

2009--Since last surveyed in 1988, no apparent exterior changes have been made to the house.
