Property Features
This two-and-one-half-story Queen Anne house was constructed c.1890. It is of frame construction, sheathed in
clapboard, and rests on a rusticated stone foundation. The steeply pitched cross gable roof is covered with asphalt
shingles and has an interior brick chimney. A simple wood cornice encloses the gable ends, which feature finials at their
peaks above small windows sheltered by wide corniced lintels. A two-story tower with canted walls and conical roof clad
in asphalt shingles with decorative finial is located at the southwest corner of the front (south) facade. An intersecting lowpitched
hip and gable roof porch supported by turned posts spans the length of the front facade. A recessed porch is
located on the second-story facade. According to the 1974 survey photograph, the second-story porch was enclosed with
a screen. Windows are a combination of the original multi-light Queen Anne combined with modern, one-over-one,
double-hung sash, single-pane casement.
Although the house displays the steeply pitched
roof, turret, and dominant front-facing gable typical of the Queen Anne style, it lacks the contrasting wall materials,
decorative brackets and valences, and ornate window surrounds found on more elaborate examples elsewhere in the
village of Campbellsport and Fond du Lac County. The house has been altered with replacement windows and the
porches have lost some architectural details.
