NO REPAIR WORK HAS YET TAKEN PLACE ON THE WEST FACE. FOUR AND FIVE WALL SURFACE FININSHED BY HANDSANDING AND REPAINTING. THE BUILDING IS IN GOOD CONDITION.

THIS BUILDING HAS HAD A VARIED HISTORY. IT FUNCTIONED AS A SPACE FOR RETAIL STORES FROM 1876 TO 1900 (SEE BIB. REF. G, H), AND AS A RESIDENCE FROM 1900 TO THE PRESENT (SEE BIB. REF. F, G). SOME OF THE BUSINESS VENTURES LOCATED THERE INCLUDED A MARBLE WORKS IN 1884, A MUSIC SHOP IN 1889, AND A PAINT SHOP AND RESIDENCE IN 1900. INDIVIDUALS ASSOCIATED WITH THE STRUCTURE AND THE DATES OF THEIR ASSOCIATION WERE AS FOLLOWS: CYRUS WOODMAN IN 1851; C. C. WASHBURN, FROM 1858 TO 1868; THEOPOLIS GEORGE, JR., FROM 1871 TO 1875; THOMAS ROWLINGS, GROCER, FROM 1877 TO 1885; J. P HANKINS, FROM 1890 TO 1915; AND EILZA HANKINS IN 1925. (SEE BIB. REF. A).

THE BUILDING WAS LOCALLY DESIGNATED, BECOMING PART OF THE MINERAL POINT LANDMARK DISTRICT IN 1972.

2012- "Built in 1851, or earlier, by Cyrus Woodman. Woodman, born in Buxton, Maine, graduated from Harvard Law School, and came to Illinois in 1840 as an agent for the Boston and Western Land Company. He moved to Mineral Point in 1844 and formed a partnership with Cadwallader Colde Washburn, also an attorney from Maine, who was already established here. The firm of Washburn and Woodman had many interests, including law, lumbering, land speculation, banking, and the shot tower at Helena, on the Wisconsin River. The brick building at 324 High Street is generally credited as being the site of the Washburn and Woodman bank. 318 High may have been an office for one of their other businesses or used as rental property.

This building has been the site of a wide variety of businesses. Theophilis George, Jr., a furniture maker, had his workshop here from 1871 until 1875; Thomas Rowlings, a grocery from 1877 to 1883; Sydney Shephard, marble works in 1884; a music shop in 1889; and a paint shop in 1900. In more modern times, Fitzsimmons Furniture Shop was here, followed by Cline Electric, Drs. George and David Kjelland, optometrists, Kjelland Vision Clinic, Davis & Duehr Eye Care, Pfotenhauer Law Office, and Schaaf and Associates, accountants."
