Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the State Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. The previously inventoried Hermann Klann House is a two and one-half story American Foursquare with Prairie School influences. The plan is generally rectangular, with a brick foundation, hipped roof with wide eaves, and clapboard siding. The north (front) facade is asymmetrical, with a porch extending across the western half of the elevation. A small flight of steps accesses the porch, which features a half-hipped roof, square posts, and a closed knee wall. A bay window with a half-hipped roof projects from the center of second story on the north elevation. The windows are one-over-one and fourover- one double hung windows in groups of two and three. A cutaway bay is located in the northeast comer of the house. The Hermann Klann House was constructed ca. 1928 for Hermann Klann, a local farm machinery salesman. It was determined eligible for the National Register in 1991 under Criterion C as an intact example of the American Foursquare style with Prairie School influences. The house is not significant under Criteria A or B. The historic boundary was drawn to follow the legal parcel boundary. The proposed construction activities include a culvert replacement west of the property, and the construction of a west-bound passing lane located on the nmiheast comer of US 10 and CTH J (see Attachment 1). There will be no construction activities or right-of-way acquisition adjacent to the Hermann Klann House. Therefore, the project will therefore have no effect on the resource. |
