NOTES
Additional Information:"The Westly" Bungalow. See 227 Ransom. 2024:This one-and-one-half-story, rectangular-plan, Sears and Roebuck bungalow was constructed c.1915. The steeply pitched side-gable roof is clad in asphalt shingles and features an original wood cornice and decorative brackets. A masonry chimney is centrally located atop the roof and the foundation is rusticated concrete block. It is of frame construction and has wood siding with wood shingles in the gable end. Windows are one-over-one and one-by-one replacement metal and vinyl units. A gable dormer is centrally located on the front (north) facade and features a door flanked by windows. It appears a small deck has been placed on top of the porch, accessible through the dormer. The primary entrance is on the facade within an enclosed porch and is accessed via wood steps. A box bay supported by wood brackets is on each side elevation. The bay on the side (east) elevation features fixed leaded windows. A wood deck is located on the rear (south) elevation. A two-bay garage clad in wood with a clipped front-gable roof is located south of the residence. According to the WHPD record, this residence is a Sears and Roebuck kit home known as the “Westly.” It was one of the most popular models and primarily constructed between 1912 and 1930. One other example of this model is known to be extant in Ripon (AHI No. 29129). Research, including historic newspapers, did not provide any additional information.
