Chambers was a tobacco merchant - founded Chambers & Owen Co. with John Owen. This house is similar to 439 S. 1st in Evansville. Potential historic district - see Cartwright Report. S.C. Chambers built this Queen Anne-style home in 1911 for $15,000. IT had all the modern conveniences of the time, including a laundry room, a fuel room, an ash room, and a root cellar. The house was also wired for electricity in the even electric power became available in town, and all the chandeliers are original to the building. The oval-shaped dining room has a built in china closet with concave leaded glass fronts. Also unique to the home are the exterior leaded glass windows. |
