Additional Information: | Additional photo: FCS 6/25. #590. FCS 6/25 - JAMES RIVER PAPER CO. (B) - this gabled, two-story utilitarian building has an irregular trapezoidal plan. The endwall and visible sidewall are each divided by masonry piers into three bays. The tile-trimmed, parapetted cornice is stepped at the apex of the end gable. The upper story windows, set above a sill course, have been covered with horizontally ribbed metal panels. The horizontal window in the trapezoidal, left bay of the endwall has two square glass inserts. The square window in the pentagonal center bay and a horizontal right bay window are solidly covered. Square windows in the left and right bays of the sidewall have single, horizontal glass inserts. The horizontal window in the center bay is entirely covered. The first story of the endwall has a metal door in the left bay, a blank center bay, and vertical right bay window filled with a ribbed metal panel with a louvered insert. Shuttered double doors in the center bay of the sidewall are framed by some of the power and pipelines attached to the building. A large cement smokestack rises from the center of the building. |
