NOTES
Additional Information:1986--Constructed and occupied by W.R. Harbeck some time before 1895, the house has had a long association with prominent Menasha families. A building contractor, W.R. Harbeck was responsible for building additions to the Hewitt Co., the Gilbert Mill, and a bridge over the Fox River at the dam. The home's next owner, Joseph E. Hill, was a prominent politician, serving terms as mayor and alderman. As an electrical engineer, Hill worked for Gilbert Paper Co., and later formed Joseph E. Hill and Sons, an electrical contracting firm which later became the Twin Cities Electric and Supply Company. In later years the house was occupied by members of the prominent Pleasants family.

The Harbeck-Hill House is located on Doty Island in one of Menasha's most prominent residential neighborhoods. Situated on the east side of Naymut Street, the house is a two-and-one-half-story Queen Anne residence featuring a full porch and a two-story bay. The roof is multi-gabled and the plan configuration is irregular. The roof material is asphalt. The siding is clapboard on the first floor with varying types of wood shingles on the upper floor and in the gable ends. The foundations are random stone. The fenestration consists of double-hung sash, two-over-one. Decorative features include elaborater barge boards and sttained glass windows in the gable ends. The window casings feature wooden lintels.

The Harbeck-Hill House is historically significant for its association with W.R. Harbeck, Joseph E. Hill and the Pleasants Family.

2009-No apparent exterior changes have been made to the home. In 1984, the house was proposed as a contributing element in the Naymut Street Historic District and, althought the district boundary has been reduced since that time, this house is located within the Naymut Street HD as it is proposed in 2009.
