Additional Information:DESIGNED IN THE GREEK REVIVAL STYLE AND BUILT IN 1854 (SEE BIB. REF. A), THIS TWO-STORY HOUSE FEATURES A RECTANGULAR SHAPED PLAN CONFIGURATION, A STONE FOUNDATION, A STONE EXTERIOR, A WOOD AND STONE TRIM, AND AN ASPHALT SHINGLED GABLE ROOF. THE OPEN GABLE END AT THE SIDE ELEVATION DISPLAYS EAVE RETURNS AND A BRICK END CHIMNEY. TWO FEDERAL DOORWAYS DISTINGUISH THE FACADE. A TRANSOM WINDOW AND SIDELIGHTS - EACH CONTAINING MUNTINS - APPEAR ON THE FIRST STORY DOOR, WHILE DENTIL TRIM, SIDELIGHTS AND PILASTERS APPEAR ON THE SECOND STORY DOOR. THE WINDOWS THROUGHOUT THE STRUCTURE CONTAIN SIX-OVER-SIX PANES, WITH STONE LINTELS AND SILLS. THIS RESIDENCE IS IN GOOD CONDITION.

INDIVIDUALS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS DWELLING AND THE DATES OF THEIR ASSOICATION INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: HENRY PLOWMAN, FROM 1856 TO 1866; JOHN STRACHAN, FROM 1871 TO 1895; AND LOUINIA STRACHAN AND HEIRS FROM 1905 TO 1910. (SEE BIB. REF. A). WITH HENRY B. WELSH, HENRY PLOWMAN WAS THE CO-FOUNDER OF THE "MINER'S FREE PRESS," MINERAL POINT'S SECOND NEWSPAPER.

Historic Mineral Point Architectural Driving Tour: Plowman came to Mineral Point in the 1830s from Pennsylvania. Plowman was postmaster of Mineral Point from 1845 to 1849.
