| Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Odin J. Oyen operated an interior design firm well known throughout the Midwest. Louis Sullivan and others experimented with spare designs for commercial buildings during the 1910s, but this is one of the earliest. At the second story, a band of windows recedes deeply into the wall, drawing the visitor’s eyes into the building’s interior spaces. (Sullivan later took a similar approach in his design of the Henry Adams Building in Algoma, Iowa.) Slender columns divide this large rectangular opening; an oval cartouche, a leaded ribbon window, and a tile-covered pent roof further embellish the facade. |
