NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property under the name "The Grout House of Ripon." It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office.

The Dart House is constructed of grout, an early form of concrete developed in Wisconsin. The grout was poured into molds to create blocks measuring 10" by 5" by 5" Marcellus Pedrick built this house in 1854 for Richard Catlin and his wife Darwina. Reportedly, Darwina was not satisfied with this house and Catlin had a larger more stylish Italianate house build one street over. Catlin sold the house to his nephew Richard Dart, a New York state imigrant who came to Wisconsin with his family in 1840.
