Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the State Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. This building is significant as the only commercial design exhibiting Gothic influences. Windows on the main facade and bevelled corner are pointed arches, emphasized by brick hood moldings. Windows along the north side are more Italianate in nature and segmentally arched. A rich pattern of dentils and inset bricks forms the cornice, culminating in the front pediment. The building conforms to the angled street pattern. The Rudd and Holden Block (later re-named the Mack Block) was built following the fire of July 1874. The 1876 City Directory indicates this was also the home of the Oshkosh Business College. Rudd and Holden were commercial grocers. |
