Two story, brick Italianate Victorian house on a stone foundation and with a hip roof and detaining that includes the following: ornamental frieze with brackets; brick segmental arches with keystones; an original, wooden double-door entry; and a hip roof porch with wooden supports. Windows are modern. Albert Eisenach was a brickmaker and active in local politics. F in photo code stands for Fox Canal Survey. The 1996 map code is 123/8 on city base map. This house was built in circa 1879 by Albert Eisenach. Eisenach was part of Neenah's German immigrant community, having previously relocated from Menasha. The 1870 census identifies the thirty-nine-year-old as a shoemaker living with his family of eight on Main Street. Eisenach was also involved in municipal concern, serving as Neenah's city treasurer in 1875 and 1876. Along with his elder brother Charles, Albert continued in the profession of shoemaking until at least 1878; however, by 1880, the federal cinsus and city business directory both list Albert Eisenach as a brick manufacturer. The A. Eisenach brickyard was located across the street from the subject house. 1996- "This two-story, brick, Italianate house rests on a stone foundation and is topped with a low hip roof with asphalt shingle siding. A wide wooden frieze with carved brackets runs beneath the overhanging eaves of the residence, and a pediment tops the entrance bay. The Main Street facade has brick window hoods with label stops, while the remaining sides carry less ornate segmental brick arches. Although the round-arched windows are indeed replacements, they retain multiple-light sash examples. The hip-roof porch has carved posts and spindled stair rails." -"Main St Overpass: Neenah, WI", WisDOT#4993-00-70, Prepared by Heritage Research, Ltd., (1996). |
