Additional Information: | SEE DISTRICT SITE FILE. 2009- Kilso's Department Store consists of four Commercial Victorian storefront buildings. All four buildings are currently owned by Nelson Electric Supply Company. The structure at 920 State St, the earliest, was constructed in 1890 and is a two story cream brick building with a corbelled brick cornice. A second-story bay window is capped with a polygonal pavilion roof which breaks through the cornice. A paired segmental-arched window is present in the second story. The first story is clad in vertical metal siding, which continues across all four storefronts. 922 State St was constructed in 1890 and has a corbelled cream brick cornice and three segmental-arched windows in the second story. The building is topped with a stepped parapet. 924 State St was built in 1907 to originally house Nelson's Hardware. The building is a three story red brick building with a decorative parapet. A metal cornice tops the third story, and a stone plaque reading "19 NELSON 07" is set into the parapet. The large second and third story windows have been filled with metal panels. 926-928 State St was built in 1908 and is a two story red brick building with a low parapet. Two bay windows (currently covered in vinyl siding) are present in the second story, as are two jack-arched windows with stone keystones and voussoirs. A small cornice tops the first story, and a larger projecting cornice caps the second story. -"STH 38 (State Street) Survey," WisDOT ID #2290-12-00, Prepared by Justin Miller and Jennifer R.
