| Additional Information: | SEE DISTRICT SITE FILE. 2009- The 1910 Farmers and Merchants Bank is a two-story Neoclassical building. The bank is clad in painted brick and terra cotta. The first story is divided into three bays by thin pilasters with stylized Corinthian capitals. Each bay contains an arched opening. The westernmost is filled with a door with a small pediment set on scrolled corbels. Arched windows are visible in the other two openings, although the main rectangular body of the window has been covered with metal shutters. A decorative bas-relief terra cotta balustrade is present at the base of the window, and a metal depository is present in the center balustrade. An entablature caps the first story. A bay window with decorative terra cotta panels is present in the second story. A window above the door is currently filled with a plywood panel, and another decorative terra cotta panel is centered above the window. The building is capped with a terra cotta frieze and denticulated band. The original projecting cornice appears to have been removed. -"STH 38 (State Street) Survey," WisDOT ID #2290-12-00, Prepared by Justin Miller and Jennifer R. Harvey (2009). |
