NOTES
Additional Information:Former medical clinic building. MacCornack Clinic was probably built in association with the first Whitehall Community Hospital, erected in 1917. According to local histories, three doctors, Robert Lee MacCornack, Sr., E.A. MacCornack (his brother), and Neil S. Simons, formed a partnership in Whitehall, in 1920. N.S. Simons and Dr. E.A. MacCornack were the Whitehall Community Hospital’s first doctors. Dr. Simons purchased a local doctor’s practice in 1914 and invited Dr. E. A. MacCornack to move to Whitehall from Keokuk, Iowa. The pair did surgery in the Parker House (AHI #64534; 18636 Dewey Street) and even did surgery at patients’ homes before the hospital was built. The three probably collectively formed the MacCornack Clinic. Robert served as the health officer for the city of Whitehall from 1923 to 1963, on the state board of health from 1937 to 1942, and was president of the Whitehall Hospital board for 33 years. The clinic may have operated until 1966, when the present Whitehall Community Hospital was erected and named Tri-County Memorial Hospital. The building is now vacant.
