NOTES
Additional Information:ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE; THIS TWO AND ONE-HALF STORY BRICK BUILDING IS ONE OF THE FEW REMAINING SECOND EMPIRE DESIGNS IN THE CITY. THE DESIGN HAS BEEN SERIOUSLY COMPROMISED BY A ONE-STORY BRICK ADDITION WHICH PROTRUDES FROM THE ENTRANCE PAVILION. THE CONVAVE MANSARD ROOF, WITH ITS SWEEPING GABLE DORMERS SUGGESTS THE ORIGINAL GRACE OF THE DESIGN. HISTORICAL STATEMENT: DR. WRIGHT WAS A PIONEER PHYSICIAN IN OSHKOSH, ARRIVING IN 1846. HE BUILT THIS HOUSE IN 1869 BUT LEGEND HAS IT HE NEVER LIVED IN IT, HAVING BUILT IT FOR HIS FIANCE AND THEN BEEN REFECTED. IT WAS RENTED UNTIL 1883 WHEN IT WAS PURCHASED BY LUMBERMAN TIMOTHY E. CRANE. IT REMAINED WITH HIS STEP-DAUGHTER FRON 1886 TO 1934 WHEN THE SALVATION ARMY ACQUIRED IT. (A/B)
