NOTES
Additional Information:ARCHITECTRAL STATEMENT: THE CITY HIGH SCHOOL WAS WATERS LAST MAJOR WORK IN THE CITY (PRIOR TO HIS DEATH IN 1917). HENRY AULER WAS ALSO ASSOCIATED WITH WATERS AT THIS TIME. THE DESIGN IS DEPENDENT ON THE ACADEMIC CLASSIC MODE OF DESIGN WITH ENTRANCE PAVILION PROJECTING FROM THE MAIN BLOCK. THE ATTIC STORY RISES ABOVE A BROAD ENTABLATURE AND TENDS TO DISRUPT THE DESIGN. AULER, DURING HIS LATER PRACTICE DESIGNED MORE IMPRESSIVE STURCTURES IN THIS MODE (WIS. NATIONAL LIFE, MASONIC TEMPLE). THERE WERE ALTERATIONS DONE TO THE BUILDING IN 1963. THE ENTRY IS NOW FROM CHURCH STREET (AVENUE?). THE INTERIOR IS COMPLETELY MODERNIZED FOR CITY HALL ACTIVITIES. HISTORIC STATEMENT: ITS REAL HISTORIC VALUE IS AS WATER'S LAST MAJOR WORK. THE INTERIOR WAS COMPLETELY MODERNIZED FOR CITY HALL ACTIVITIES.
