Additional Information: | This is a three story commercial structure notable for its simplicity of detail and strength of form. A simple bracketed cornice caps the building, while the third floor features three arched one over one windows. At the second floor are rectangular windows. Slightly raised piers separate the window columns. The storefront has been altered by the installation of a classical storefront with no doors, apparently done to unify this building with 1751 adjacent. Fieldstone has been used as a veneer over the original storefront piers. 1751 North Third is a two story corner commercial building in the Victorian Italianate style. It features a simple metal cornice with end blocks and a center pediment, above corbelled brick. The three second story windows are topped by stone sills with end brackets and with brick arches above. The storefront has been altered through the installation of a large classically detailed corncie, transon windows and corner door. Fieldstone veneer has been installed on storefront piers and at corner entrance. Good example of a small cream brick store of this date with integrity of form and appearance and intact pedimented cornice. Built by George Geiger for his grocery business which he established in 1866. |
