NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. SITED ON A LARGE LOT, THIS BRICK, TWO-STORY T-SHAPED HOUSE HAS ITALIANATE BRACKETS UNDER THE EAVES AND GABLE OVERHANG, VISUALLY SUPPORTING THE SLOPING TERNEPLATE ROOF THAT IS INTERSECTED BY A REAR WING. SEGMENTED BRICK ARCHES ABOVE THE FOUR OVER FOUR LONG NARROW SHUTTERED WINDOWS AND A SIDELIGHTED FRONT DOOR WITH A TRANSOM ACCENT THE SYMMETRICALLY DESIGNED FACADE. A TWO-LEVEL BALUSTRADED ENTRY PORCH WITH DENTIL AND FILIGREE TRIM THAT IS SUPPORTED BY TURNED POSTS WITH DECORATIVE CAPITALS AND A TWO-LEVEL BALUSTRADED SIDE PORCH WITH "SPANDRELLESS" FLAT ARCH FORMS ARE THE DOMINANT FEATURES OF THE HOUSE. THE SIDE PORCH IS IDENTICAL TO TH SIDE PORCH ON THE MILLS-ANDREWS HOUSE ON BIRCH ST. ONE OF FOUR BRICK HOUSE OF A SIMILAR NATURE, THIS HOUSE IS SIGNIFICANT BECAUSE IT IS AN EXCELLENT EXAMPLE OF 19TH CENTURY BRICK RESIDENTIAL ARCHITECTURE IN ITS ORIGINAL STATE. IN ADDITION, THIS LARGE HOUSE THE ONLY VISUAL LANDMARK OF NOTE ON THE SOUTH END OF THE VILLAGE. ALTHOUGH THE BRICKS WERE CLEANED (BRICKS HAD BEEN PAINED WHITE) AND TUCK POINTED AND THE ORIGINAL PORCHES RESTORED C. 1981, THE HOUSE IS NOW VACANT AND IN NEEED OF INTERIOR WORK. THE BUILDING WAS CONSTRUCTED BEFORE 1877. THE BRICKS WERE CLEANED AND THE PORCHES RESTORED IN 1981. (A,B). PREVIOUS OWNERS OF THE HOUSE WERE FROMME IN 1981, EGAN IN 1945, WILLIAM THOMAS, JR. AND WILLIAM THOMAS, SR., WITH NO DATES GIVEN (B). THE OWNER IN 1982 WAS DENNIS CARTHEW.
