Additional Information:OWNERS DATE USE George & Catherine Spangler ??? residence O'Donnell ??? residence Staab ??? residence The Spangler house is an example of Italianate style residential design. The cubical building, stands two stories, plus attic, in height and rests on a stone foundation. The fenestration on the facade consists of three window on the second story which are aligned with two windows and the entrance on the first story. Dressed stone was employed for the simple lintels. The attic level receives light, and air through small rectangular windows inserted beneath the eaves and alternating with frame brackets. A frame porch with turned posts and perforated railings, extends across the facade. Samuel and Catherine Spangler came from Pennsylvania in 1846 and started a Gun & Locksmith Shop on the east side of Monroe's square. George Spangler succeeded his father in business. George became Monroe's mayor in 1884.
