| Additional Information: | A distinctive commercial structure in the village of New Glarus and in the county. The building's form and detailing suggest a more pretentious building, possibly of eastern or Spanish design. Typical details of this commercial style are the use of variegated brick and raised stone, the curved parapet wall, and the roofline ornament. The building housing the public library once also contained the fire station and the Municipal Light and Water Department. In 1962, the village purchased the Ford Garage (located next door) and that building became the village hall and fire station. 2015: IN 1983-84 THE ENTIRE COMPLEX WAS REMODELED AND GIVEN A SWISS STYLE APPEARANCE. IT HOUSES THE VILLAGE OFFICES, POLICE DEPARTMENT, LIBRARY AND MEETING ROOMS. |
