NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Architectural Statement: In 1902, Waukesha received a $15,000 grant from Andrew Carnegie, to begin building a public libary. Local architect, C. C. Anderson prepared the plans for the Calssical Revival building, which was constructed of local limestone with granite and terra cotta trim. The building was substantially enlarged and remodeled in 1967 and now bears little resemblance to the original building. A suggestion of the classical treatment of the side pavilions remains in the semiciruclar wing (of glass and stone) which adjoins the new main entrance of the library. The building is in excellent condition. The facade is oriented to the north. As of 1998, there were no plans to remodel or relocate. Historical Statement: The Public Libary was built in 1902 and dedicated in 1904 with a grant from the Carnegie Foundation. Other map codes include Map A 48/27 and Waukesha City Map 48/27.
