| Additional Information: | Desription: Two story side wings flank the central two story main block of this gracious 1925 clapboard, Noeclassical estate. The wood shingled, gabled main roof includes three dormers. A full-height collonaded portico serves as a focal point for the house, which is located on a flat site on Geneva Lake's south shore. The estate includes a drive-though Colonial Revival designed gatehouse/caretaker's house at the South Lakeshore Drive (WL 90/15) entrance, a garage/apartment (WL 92/29), and a guesthouse (WL 92/28). All are in excellent condition. A gatehouse (WL 90/15) is a related building. Architectural /Engineering Significance: Allegheny is an exemplary Period Revival house, remiaining intact in site, structure and outbuildings. Historical Background: Allegheny was built on a 25-acre portion of the former Laramoor estate, formerly owned by J. H. Moore. Lewis E. Myers purchased the land when Loramoor was sold, and built Allegheny in 1925. Myers was president of the Myers construction firm in Chicago and owner of the Southern Electric Company. After Myers died in 1945, the estate was bought by E. C. Styberg. |
