ENCLOSED PORCH. 2016 - ENCLOSURE REMOVED FROM FRONT PORCH, OTHERWISE APPEARANCE UNCHANGED 2016- "This two-story ltalianate house was constructed in 1853 by George Griswold. It has box-like massing, is clad in cream brick, and has a low-pitched hip roof with wide overhanging eaves supported by paired decorative brackets. An exterior brick chimney is located on the side (south) elevation. The main entrance centered on the symmetrical front (east) facade is sheltered by a flat roof portico supported by square posts with ornate brackets. Additional entrance doors are located on the side (north and south) elevations. A two-story gable wing is located at the rear (west) elevation. It features a modern wood staircase that appears to lead to the second story. Windows are a combination of the original, two-over-two, double-hung; one-over-one, double-hung; and replacement, six-over-six, double-hung sash with arched crowns and simple sills. According to research, Griswold manufactured farm equipment and later became a farm implement dealer. The property remained in the Griswold family through 1955 and subsequently became a rental property." -"CTH A: Madison St to Grant St", WisDOT#3638-00-72/73, Prepared by Mead & Hunt, Inc., (2016). |
