Additional Information: | DESCRIPTION The house on this property consits of an older gable section and a large ell added around 1930. The two and one-half story building has a steeply-pitched gables, a gable-roffed dormer, clapboard siding, wood shingle trim, and single-lighted, double-hung sashes. There is a sun room extending from the front of the old section. A small porch with hipped roof and brick piers covers the entrance to the ell. The older house on the property is a log structure covered with deteriorating clapboards. The one and one-half story house has a medium size window opening and a central entrance. It is in deteriorating condition and the log structure is not fully visable throught the clapboards. Also on the property is a gambrel-roofed barn with board siding, a fieldstone foundation, and a steeply-pitched gable doormer over the large sliding doors. ARCHITECTURAL/ENGINEERING SIGNIFICANCE Although most of the log structure is covered with clapboards, it is significant because its method of construction illustrates pioneer dwellings in southeastern Wisconsin and the city of Mequon. The large barn is of interest because it is a good example of the turn of the century barns that were built in Mequon. Exspecially intersting is the gable-rooofed dormer, a common decoration on the barns of this vintage in Mequon. |
