Additional Information: | Based on the Queen Anne style with its variety of roof shapes and corner turrets; the building has been covered with masonite siding which appears too coarse and conceals the flow of volumes. This was the residence of James A. Barnes, the proprietor of the Star Foundry and Machine Works. 1994- "Owned at one time by James A. Barnes, a local industrialist, this two-and-one-half story structure was likely a fine example of a turreted, Queen Anne house. The house has a coursed, stone block foundation and a gable-on-hip roof with additional, projecting wall gables. The most distinctive features offered by this house include the hip roof porch with a gablet off to the right (south), over the front steps, as well as a polygonal, second floor turret in the southwest corner and a full height, two-and-one-half story turret with a tent roof in the northwest corner. Unfortunately, the house is being remodeled, the results of which appear to include some new window treatments and the closure of some of the full-height, turret windows." - "Jackson St (Murdock to Church), Oshkosh", WisDOT ID #6432-07-00, Prepared by Heritage Research, Ltd (1994). |
