Additional Information: | Significant as the best example of the Second Empire style, here in unaltered form. The bulding is constructed of brick and rises two stories to the concave mansard roof. The facade is symmetrically arranged with frame bay windows flanking the central entrance. Corners of the bulding are marked by brick quoins. A frame belvedere completes the design. Robert Campbell arrived in Oshkosh in 1852. He joined his father and brother in operating a saw mill, shingle mill, box factory and planing mill on the river. He bult this house c. 1868 and lived in it, according to the directories, into the 1890's. We have not been able tod iscover other areas in which he might have been prominent. |
