Additional Information: | The Finney house repeats the basic form of William Waters design for the Hull house (see 627 Amherst WN 29/17). The house is two stories with attic. Each floor level is marked by a slight projection and a change in surfacing material. The first floor is covered with clapboards, the second with undulating shingles and the attic by a flowing curved pattern of shingles. The design is very fluid, and one of the more distinctive of Waters' small scale designs. The residence considered pivotal in the Washington district and significant as an example of the local interpretation of the Colonial Revival style, here with overtones of the Queen Anne and Shingle Style. R.P. Finney was associated with the First National Bank in Oshkosh. |
